Safety clutches reliably transmit torque and limit it to a defined value. By separating both sides of the drive line in a fraction of a second, they increase system availability, reduce operating costs and significantly minimize repair costs. In short: Safety clutches optimize the total cost of ownership (TCO). When it comes to investment costs, these are often even lower than just a single overload damage. There are load-holding and load-disconnecting safety clutches.

Load-holding clutches limit the torque to the specified value and do not interrupt torque transmission in the event of overload. This is particularly important for vertically or obliquely moving masses that must not fall uncontrollably. Load-holding clutches include friction clutches, magnetic continuous slip clutches and locked clutches.
Load-disconnecting clutches transmit the torque in a form-fitting manner. In the event of an overload, they separate the input and output, i.e. interrupting the torque or power transmission.
